Wrestling with Interior Decorating

Still limited on how much stuff we can move over, but that's okay today. I'm working on decorating. And then unpacking the rest of the board games and random art supplies. Which kind of relates to decorating, right?

So, Grandma was a china painter and had many china painting friends. She has many places and furniture items around the house that were dedicated to her vast collection of china. We weren't able to keep all the china in the family. Not even the things she made, which is yet another sore spot for me, so we'll keep going with this story. Now I have a dilemma called, "What do I put on all of these shelves made fairly specifically for plates?"

We did buy as much of the china as we could, and some of the plates will be displayed somewhere in the house, but these shelves seem to be too out-in-the-open and too narrow for highly breakable things. The girls are careful, but things get thrown around once in a while. And this room is currently the front runner for where my awesome Dr. J foam basketball and hoop set from the 1980s is going to go. But it's okay, I have a great idea.

In sixth grade, I went through a WWF (now WWE) wrestling faze, as all young girls do. And as I've gotten older and had time to look back on those months fondly, I've bought a few of my favorite characters as I've seen them and been able to afford them. (They're a little pricey for something that is not a Muppet or a Beatle.) And guess what! They can mostly stand on their own! Sort of! So guess who's going up on the railing.....

Okay, so they can fall kind of easily. But they're over by where it'll be less of a watch-out-below kind of situation. And they seem pretty stable now. I've been slamming the outside door, using the closet door, and stomping around the room to test their ability to stay in place. And aside from Curt "Mr. Perfect" Hennig not having very good balance, and Jerry "The King" Lawler falling off repeatedly (he's a stubborn fellow), they're all staying pretty solid.

Looks good, right? There's still room for Papa Shango, Ric "Nature Boy" Flair, Bam Bam Bigelow, Shawn Michaels, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and an Undertaker that isn't too creepy. In the event that I find, can afford, and can talk myself into buying each of those. Hypothetically, of course. Not that I'm looking. But maybe a little.

Another railing has a few pictures I bought from a friend. I may relocate them later, but I really like them where they are for now. And they're mostly out of the sun, to reduce fading. Also, sharks are afraid of the sun. Maybe you didn't know that. It's why Jaws is pretty unbeatable on Nintendo unless you stay up late until the night. (Or so I've heard. I'm pretty sure beating Jaws is just a myth.)

I also thought Adam's die cast Star Wars ships would look good here, but they're barely visible from the floor.

And since they're already over here, I'm going to assign them a place in this display case. I'm sure Adam won't mind, but he's probably going to rearrange them because I put some ship next to some other ship that "just doesn't make sense". That's fair - I'd be put out if he had Vince McMahon between my two Bret "The Hitman" Hart figures.

Hey - I had to buy two of them. I got one alone first because he was my favorite, but then another one came with Davey Boy Smith, and I couldn't NOT buy a British Bulldog, right? Exactly.
