Huge milestone today..... We did our first play date at the new house! Actually, it was the first time we've ever hosted a play date. Ever. That's a little nerve-wracking in a house we don't actually live in and therefore don't have things like cups and plates and bread lying around. Or extra rolls of toilet paper......
It went well, though, I think. No one had to be rushed to the hospital, although Emmy shut her fingers in a closet door within the first three minutes.
Emmy and Gwen were thrown off a little by having someone else's input to consider. They normally have a series of activities that we do every time we're at the house: play with off-brand Jenga blocks, play rubber ducks, play with pull string animals, play hide and seek. And these things often happen in a specific order, too, because the girls are extremely prone to patterns (my fault). So having someone wanting to play different things was a new adventure, and they came up with a great new activity: running in circles around the living room and falling down.
Probably won't work so good when bigger furniture gets moved in there. But hey, what do I know?
Agatha didn't participate in the running and falling down. Not because she can't (although she really can't), but because she found the picture window. And she LOVES that thing.
What's out there that's more exciting than three girls running wildly? I'm not sure, except that maybe what she was really enjoying was the calmness of the outdoors compared to the zoo in the living room.
The girls also did the "classic" activities with blocks and pull string animals. I don't know what else to call them. They're wooden animals that are nailed or glued to boards with wheels that can be pulled around by a string. They're also antiques which used to be Grandma's, and I bought at her auction. Grandma always let me play with them, so I'm not too fussed about it. As long as we have wood glue, a hammer, and yarn, it'll be fine.
It was a fun day. There were a few sad faces when it was over, which is encouraging. So, now that my play date hosting has not been a complete failure, we can do it again soon! And I'll make sure to bring some bread. And maybe some peanut butter, to be safe.
