Hey, the sewer is all finished and working! In theory! Because the water isn't hooked up for the new well yet, and so the toilets haven't been flushed because there isn't any water to refill them after one flush. We're saving that one flush per toilet until there is a child-related emergency that can't wait for the drive home.
But actually, the guess is that the water will be hooked up tomorrow (Friday), and then we can really test out all the new water lines for real. And that will be exciting, and maybe scary if something isn't working right. Or messy.
So now we maybe have a timeline! So far, things have been in a ripple. When the remodeling is done, the floors can be put down. When the floors are down, the walls can be painted. When the weather is nicer, the new well and sewer can be put in. Now there's just a little touch up work to do in the bathrooms (paint got scuffed when the toilets were put back, apparently - I keep forgetting to notice), the new oven isn't there yet, the half door to the basement needs to be put in, and a few light sockets need to be repaired (the awesome light hanging in the old sewing/small dining room is one of them for those of you who have been inside - removing that light fixture was a deal breaker).
I know what you're wondering. When will you get the moving process sped up? When will you start sleeping there? When will your house be on the market? When can I buy that one? (Okay, the last questions are what I'm hoping SOMEONE is ready to start wondering. Right now.)
Well, I'm glad you asked. When the shelves, closets, cupboards, and stuff have been deep cleaned, all the remodeling is finished for reals, and the vacuuming is all done, we'll start moving much faster. Hopefully this is what it will look like.
*Furniture currently in the house (Grandma and Grandpa's stuff and a few of my DVD racks) will be put into place according to the diagrams I've been working on.
*The diagrams I've been working on won't line up quite right, so I'll spend a couple days crying/saying inappropriate words and readjusting everything. Then we'll get that group of furniture straightened out.
*Continuing the move of things here into closets, cupboards, and shelves there that are built in or already in place there. We may unpack a few of the auction things over there, too, but much of that will have to wait.
*Move our furniture over according to the diagrams and do some more crying and such until it all gets put somewhere acceptable.
*Move boxes of random things that didn't make sense in the earlier loads or have a place to go and leave those things in boxes until I have the energy/frame of mind to deal with it. Twenty years, maybe?
Adam gets out of school in late May but does a Bright Lights class in early June, followed by graduate school for five weeks. In theory, we want to be moved in before grad school. But it may not happen quickly until Adam gets out of school. So, that four to six day period, maybe? It'll actually just depend on the weather, and how fast we get going once everything is really truly ready to go for sure. Please don't plan anything big on the weekends until then, people. We won't be able to commit as long as we're trying to get a lot done on those precious days off from school.
And, of course, it'll help if we can get a little sunshine and a lot less wind. That sounds a lot like moving week in the dorms back in college. At least we have a little more flexibility than what Housing allowed us! (And no waiting on the elevators, either!)
